This is a steel impression die negative, originally for use in the production of pressed molded glass buttons, beads or cabochons. The negative was hand-engraved and was used to create the actual mold in a softer metal that would then be set in long metal pliers and used to hand press fancy glass buttons, beads or cabochons.

Please note that this has been well used and is offered in condition as found; any rust can be removed.
