Vintage Rare original salesman sample book of glass buttons. Made for the Joseph Riedel company of Polaun, Czechoslovakia. Joseph Riedel was a Czech-born Austrian glassmaker and was the 7th-generation owner of Riedel Crystal, now more famous for fine wine glasses. With the title, "Glasfabriken" and from 1935 this extremely rare book has a range of 601 different button colors with transparent, satin, striped, opaque and opaline glass types, all sewn onto cards. The design of the transparent buttons is different to the opaques to better show off the glass colors.

This book is unusual in that several of the pages have been adapted. The book continued to be used as a sample card after the war as buttons remained in stock. With the arrival of communism and Nationalisation of industry, evidence of private companies was removed. Some pages had the buttons removed and new paper glued on with "Československé závody Sklářské, Jablonecké sklárny" which translates as "Czechoslovak glassworks, Jablonec glassworks". The original buttons were then re-sewn back on.
There are 11 card pages. The original Polaun pages have serial numbers and German descriptions of each button below the buttons. The adapted pages have numbers for each button color. A few buttons are missing throughout the series of cards. The cards are all inserted into wooden slots in the book spine. This is a wonderful and rare carded book set. The book itself measures 10" x 8" x 3.5".
