Vintage 1960's Czech cobalt blue topaz foil art glass ashtray Pavel Hlava

Vintage 1960's Czech art glass ashtray designed by Pavel Hlava and made by Exbor. With layers of cobalt blue and topaz glass cased in crystal glass and with silver foil and air bubble highlights in the glass. In excellent condition.

Measuring 8cm (3.2") across and 7cm (2.75") tall.

Pavel Hlava studied at the Glass School in Železný Brod and at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague with Karel Štipl in 1948. After graduating from the school, he collaborated with the Army Art Studio and the Central Art Center for the Glass and Ceramics Industry in Prague. From 1959 to 1985 he worked as a glass artist at the ÚBOK (Institute of Housing and Clothing Culture) in Prague. In 1967 he taught at the Royal College of Art in London. After returning to the republic in 1972, he became chairman of the art council at Crystalex in Nový Bor.
